Guru Score Methodology

How Guru Score summarizes recorded evidence without pretending to guarantee checkout success.

Reviewed August 14, 2026

Guru Score is an evidence summary for an offer on Promocodes. It is designed to help shoppers compare how much recent, traceable information is available—not to predict with certainty whether a merchant will accept an offer.

A high score does not replace the merchant's current checkout terms, and a low score does not automatically mean an offer is invalid. The score should always be read together with the evidence label, review date and recorded conditions.

01

Signals used by the score

The methodology can consider five categories of recorded evidence. Their relative weights are part of the product logic and may be adjusted when the scoring system is improved.

Verification recency

More recent review activity can carry more weight than stale evidence.

Checkout or proof evidence

Recorded evidence that directly supports the offer can strengthen the score when available.

Community results

Useful shopper feedback may contribute, while remaining only one input rather than definitive proof.

Source reliability

Stable, authorized and well-structured sources can provide stronger context than incomplete or ambiguous data.

Terms clarity

Offers with clear eligibility, geography, expiry and usage conditions can be easier to assess responsibly.

02

Why scores change over time

Evidence becomes less useful as it ages. A score may therefore decline when no fresh review, source update or useful feedback is available, even if the offer has not been explicitly reported as expired.

New evidence can also change the score in either direction. A corrected term, failed destination check, new community result or updated source record may alter the current evidence picture.

03

What the score is not

Not a merchant rating

It does not evaluate the merchant's overall service, delivery or product quality.

Not a product review

It does not measure whether a product is good or suitable for a shopper.

Not a probability

A score is not a mathematical promise that a code has a particular chance of working.

Not paid placement

Affiliate value or commercial importance should not directly purchase a higher evidence score.

Not a substitute for checkout

The final price, eligibility and acceptance are controlled by the merchant.

04

Evidence labels matter too

A numeric summary can hide important context, so Promocodes may also display evidence labels such as a stronger verified state or a limited-evidence state. These labels communicate what type of review was actually completed.

An offer with limited evidence can still be useful when the known facts are presented honestly. The objective is not to force every public listing into the same confidence category.

05

Community feedback

Shopper feedback can help identify changing conditions, but it is interpreted cautiously. A single success or failure may depend on country, customer type, account history, product selection, minimum spend, currency or timing.

Repeated feedback can become more informative when it is consistent with source data and recent review evidence. Abuse controls may also limit obviously repetitive or manipulated submissions.

06

Editorial and technical safeguards

The scoring system should operate on recorded evidence rather than invented values. Missing evidence remains missing, and a score should not be artificially improved by filling unknown fields with unsupported assumptions.

Administrators may correct factual errors in the underlying offer or evidence record. Such corrections should improve the source record rather than merely editing a number for presentation.

07

How shoppers should use Guru Score

Use the score as one comparison signal. Read the recorded terms, review time, evidence label and destination details, then confirm the current conditions on the merchant site before paying.

Guru Score summarizes evidence held by Promocodes. It does not guarantee merchant acceptance, product availability or a final checkout price.
